As we are getting out of lockdown, maybe we have gained a little excess from visiting the fridge for snacks during self-isolation. This could be the time to get into shape ??

Good news is that after the pubs and restaurants, gyms and sport facilities are now able to open to allow those that want to fight back and get themselves back into the jeans they wore before lockdown.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson held off allowing gyms to reopen from the 25th July despite the want and need from the public that were frustrated with the lack of action from the government

Why is it important for gyms to reopen?

The fitness industry reacted with frustration at Mr Johnson’s decision to give the green light to many sectors of the economy, but not gyms.

PureGym, one of the UK’s largest operators with more than one million members, said in a statement: “We understand that these decisions are not easy, but it is a strange ‘war on obesity’ that sees pubs and restaurants open before gyms.

“Our facilities are, on average, the size of five or six doubles tennis courts and are exceptionally well ventilated, enabling people to work and exercise safely and securely.”

What about locally to Grantham?

Scott Newcombe who runs the Touch Gloves Boxing Gym in Grantham with Dave Miller said ‘it’s great to be back! After a long time out it was nice to blow the cobwebs away this morning with our first classes since the lockdown.’ Scott added ‘we had a lot of people banging on our door asking when we were reopening which was great so we have had to put in a booking system on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/touchglovesboxinggym/ to help with the demand. We are not just here for boxing, many of our customers us use purely for fitness and we cater for men, women and children of all ages.
